Dungeness crabs exist in almost all California marine habitats at some point in their lives. As larvae, they can be carried up to 3.7km offshore. As recently-settled juveniles, they inhabit coastal estuaries. Once they reach maturity at 2-3 years, they move into deeper offshore waters and will mate during the summer months.
